Looking for translators to make SeedPeer multilang!

Dear visitors,

We want to launch a new multilingual version of SeedPeer and need our help to translate from english to your own language the website.

We are not restricting translations to only french, german, italian or spanish, any language is welcome because this websites is yours and we want to provide access to torrents to everybody anywhere in the world!

So, if you're interested in helping us, please reply to this blog post with your contact infos, we will send you instructions!

New features incoming, post your suggestions!

There is one thing we love to do: receiving your feedback about the website, and adding new features based on your ideas! Together, we can make SeedPeer even better :)

We have started adding a set of new features to make navigation on the website more comfortable:

added the cloud of most searched keywords in the footer of all pages: no need to get back to homepage to see the most searched torrents

added related search suggestions: know what other users have been searching for in correlation with your current search query

added back the RSS search feeds: just click on the RSS button and add the feed to your favorite RSS reader to check for new torrents related to your search. You can also create your own feed following this syntax:
http://www.seedpeer.com/searchfeed/keyword.xml
(replace keyword by your search query)

increased the number of results to 2000 torrents per search: more choice is better :)

added highlighting of search results: check immediately if a torrent search result matches to your request

Fighting fake and passworded files, the battle continuous...

We got a lot of angry emails from our loyal members these past days. It appears that a lot of fake files are being uploaded. We want you to know that we are in a constant battle and that we are continuously investing in new systems to detect and delete fake files. We already have a sophisticated system that is able to auto detect fake files (algorithms yummy...). However it's clear that this by itself is not enough and so we have added a second layer of administrative tools to our backend. This will surely reduce the number of bad files dramatically.

Additionally, we have also deleted 200.000 torrents that were dead/to small/suspicious etc. Meanwhile please keep commenting and reporting torrents, this is essential to the entire process. Maybe we cant get all of those bad files but if we all cooperate we can surely get at least 95%.

I also want to ask other bittorrent admins to open their fake hash database so we can all eliminate these bogus files and put an end to this crap. Our database is open upon request, feel free to send us an email, we'll send you the link.

Finally I want everybody to know that we are not the only site with this problem, we are working very hard to provide you guys and girls with the best possible experience.

Welcome to the new Seedpeer, say hello to my little friend!

Do you remember that episode of South Park where Randy Marsh has to apologize to Jessy Jackson because he's the emperor of all black people? That's kinda how this is, we decided to step it up and let others kiss our butt's for a change. So from now on we are going to be very hard on anybody that steps in our way. It's time that Seedpeer got the credit it deserves! Over the past years we have been working very hard to offer our users the best service possible. Where other sites were passive, we've took action.

However our hard work didn't pay off the way we wanted and since the day we've started as meganova.org to seepdeer.com our traffic has remained around the same level. We have been the victim of DOS attacks (bagoo.php, right Niek?). We have been offered money to hand over the site (ask torrentfreak about TargetPoint). We have been mocking MediaDefender and we have received press coverage by various newspapers and television stations around the globe. Although we have always preferred to stay under the radar, this was not meant to stop us from growing or seeking new methods to create more attractive features for our visitors.

From now on we are going to take a more aggressive approach when it comes to promoting our site. Therefor we need the help of as many of you guys out there as possible. Our main goal now is to build a propaganda machine, one that has never been seen before. We need your help to spread the word on blogs, myspace, facebook, digg, real life, anywhere!

We hope you like the new layout, it should reflect our new goals and attitude towards the world. Spread the word about Seedpeer to your friends at school/collage/work/etc. Let's be 1 big army!

BayTSP and Megapath conspiracy, they should hang!

Over the past few days we have noticed an increase of traffic, closer inspection revealed that a whole range of ip's was downloading random pages from the site. After running a couple of tests and monitoring for a few days we've noticed that the involved ip's all belong to BayTSP, an infamous anti piracy group that seems to be attacking us in a DDOS kind of way. At a peak their servers (over 5000 of them) request numerous pages in an attempt to deny access to legit users. While this is no problem for us as we have a hardware firewall with DOS detection, other and more smaller sites could go down because of this.

When we contacted Megapath, the ISP of BayTSP and explained the situation the asshole operator (his name was Mike) told me to fuck off because the ip's I've sent didn't belong to them. While running a whois query on the ip's it's pretty clear to whom those addresses belong. Apparently BayTSP has running so many servers that are being hosted by Megapath that they simply don't give a shit about our formal complaint. In fact this is the second time that I had to call them, last time was in January when I got the same response. So what is it that we can do about this legally? Well, we are considering legal action against both companies for sabotage and damages that were caused in terms of bandwidth costs. We have already blocked all ip's that we could trace to them and I'm sure that more will be added to the firewall soon.

If we take legal action there is a good chance that they will suffer a great blow as we have proof of the attacks in the form of log files with over 5000 ip's that belong to BayTSP and Megapath. In the next few days we will discuss our options with our legal team and take it further from there.

Seedpeer is free! If you payed for it then you've been scammed!

An increasing amount of emails lately from people who want a refund. Apparently they've used some shady website to sign up and after they payed money for this so called service they got redirected to Seedpeer. We want everybody to know that Seedpeer is 100% free of charge and that we have never nor will we ever charge our users. If you payed money then you are the victim of a scam operation. There's not much we can do other then identifying these sites and request they stop doing what they are doing. However you still might get your money back, here's a few tips:

Contact the website you signed up on and ask your money back
Contact your credit card company, they might get your money back
Notify your local authorities
Send emails to the ISP of the scam site

Edit your own torrents (Finally) and more features

This one has been in the pipeline for a very long time because we were hesitant that it might get abused. However we did finally decide that such a thought is nonsense and coded the whole thing. So from now on when you upload a torrent while logged in and visit the "My Torrents page" a small icon will be available (). By clicking on this icon you will be able to edit the torrent you've uploaded or file a deletion request. Another thing that we have changed is the comments system, whenever the uploader of a torrent posts a comment the system will display that comment in orange.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who make use of the comments system, leaving comments will benefit everybody and only take a few seconds of your time. In order to make it easier to locate a file that you have downloaded we have added a bookmarking function (link next to the tabs on the details pages). You can view your bookmarks by clicking on the bookmarks link (top right of any page while logged in).

We also want to ask you, our valued visitors about the stuff that your missing on Seedpeer. We are working around the clock to improve the site and your input is very important to us. After all ya'll are the reason we maintain this site.

Our fight against fake files and lack of comments

Most of our visitors know that we have taken an active stand when comes to the detection of fake files. We even developed an advanced system that can work on its own (detect, delete, ban, etc..). A lot of our visitors appreciate our efforts and help us by reporting torrents that are fake/nuked etc. So all's great one might say. Well it's not. I have seen certain torrents that have been downloaded many times with a lot of seeds and 0 comments. Leaving comments will only take a few seconds and save others possibly hours.

That is why I want to urge everybody who has downloaded anything, no matter how big the file or how perverted (you to sick guy) to drop a comment and let everybody else who might be interested in the file know what the deal is. You could notify users that the file is fake, has a virus, is great or anything else. Keep in mind that Seedpeer is a social torrent site where we care about the user experience and want to offer the best service possible. We can only accomplish this with your help.

We are also looking into ways to stimulate our members to post comments, so if anyone has an idea on how to accomplish this, please let us know.

For the love of god: STOP MESSING WITH TORRENTFREAK!!!

My twin brother from TorrentFreak (Ernesto) contacted me earlier today because some of our visitors were sending him emails about TorrentFreak being the cause we got shut down a few times. This is not true, TorrentFreak and Ernesto are good friends of ours and we would like to inform all of you that TF is probably the most pro piratic bittorrent news source out there.

So again just to be clear we were never shut down because of TF and we have never had any problems with them so stop harassing them.

To my brother Ernesto: Anyone harassing you should read this post!
