The deliberately retro-camp "Flash Gordan" is your quintessential eye- and ear-candy movie. Not only is it advisable that you check your brain in at the door, youre [i]supposed[/i] to. When Dale shoots two of Mings drones, then clubs a third with the gun (instead of shooting it), [i]then tosses the gun away[/i], -- its not a "script error". Its on purpose. Anybody who complains about something like that in a movie like this just doesnt get it.
So just shut the hell up and enjoy some of the most ridiculously huge and expensive sets ever made. "Flash" packed em in at the theaters, but cost so much to make that the hinted-at sequel was never made. And lets hope they dont, because theres no way a green-screened FX extraveganza will ever compete with a hundred guys on wires wearing preposterously fake wings and hamming up every second of it.

In this update of the 1930s comic strip, Flash is a football hero who is skyjacked aboard Dr. Zarkovs rocketship along with beautiful Dale Arden. The threesome are drawn into the influence of the planet Mongo, controlled by Ming the Merciless. Ming has been testing the Earth with unnatural disasters, and, deeming it a threat to his rule, he plans to destroy it. He also intends to take Dale as his concubine. Flash must avoid the amorous attentions of Mings daughter and unite the warring kingdoms of Mongo to rescue Dale and save our world.
