Description

Die Serie spielt in der fiktiven ländlichen Kleinstadt Bon Temps im US-Bundesstaat Louisiana und schildert das ungewöhnliche Miteinander von Menschen und Vampiren, die seit zwei Jahren ein Leben in der Öffentlichkeit führen und nach Anerkennung in der Gesellschaft streben. Zuvor entwickelte ein japanischer Wissenschaftler ein synthetisches Blut, das u. a. als Marke Tru Blood angeboten und landesweit vertrieben wird. Der künstliche Blutersatz soll die Nahrungsbedürfnisse der Vampire stillen.

Hauptfigur ist die über telepathische Fähigkeiten verfügende 25-jährige Kellnerin Sookie Stackhouse, die sich ungeachtet der gesellschaftlichen Hürden in einen Vampir, William Thomas „Bill“ Compton, verliebt.
