WEED ANNOUNCEMENT
You asked for it... You got it. HRV-CDR-029.
If you all remember, we had a little poll not long ago to let the Harvested faithful choose their favorite show that was in dire need of the Harvested Treatment.
The winner was June 5, 1971; the Sportpalast in West Berlin.
And I would personally like to thank all those @@%*&&^^!! for choosing this show ;-)
I dont know what the tapers problem was. But this show is just loaded with mic noises. Which translates into lots and lots and lots of work for me to remove them. But here comes 030 to my rescue...
As we plan to release 030 on Christmas Eve, we are releasing 029 now so as to minimize the overlap of weeding between the two shows.
Ive fixed a couple hundred of these mic noises. But unfortunately, there are hundreds more than I just dont have the time to address. But knowing that I wouldnt have the time to do them all, I addressed the most needy first. So there is a definite improvement in the extraneous noise department, but not as complete as I would have liked.
Although that is a bummer, there are other positives to discuss about this release. Ive compared 029 to the Highland release of this show (same taper) called Return of the Son of Nothing. And I am proud to introduce to you the mighty return of the High End. Thats right, the high end is back. And with it come the sounds and subtleties that are absent from the Highland release. All thanks to Rons low gen tape.
But the return of the high end comes with a price, as typical for recording of this vintage, we have hiss. Not much. But there is some, which varies throughout the recording.
I dont know how low a gen Rons tape was, but we unfortunaely still have cuts between tracks. Id have liked to inform you the the inbetween track chatter and tunings had been restored, but I cant.
To summarize, 029 is an improvement over the Highland release, but still not the definitive edition.

Yes, the title for this release is in German. Vierundzwanzig Teile von Nichts (HRV-CDR-029)
The wife is learning German with the kids, but shes out of town. So can anyone provide me with:
a. A German-to-English translation of the title
and
b. An English phonetic spelling of the proper German pronunciation.
Im guessing well refer to this one as VTvN.
Also, is there significance to the intentional spelling change of Return of the Son... to Return of the Sun...?

a. As for the translation: Vierundzwanzig Teile von nichts means in English, translated exactly: Twenty-four parts of Nothing One could also change the word order a bit and say Nichts, Teile Eins bis Vierundzwanzig which would be Nothing, parts One to Twenty-four Well, I think you got the idea ;-)
b.OK, Ill give it a try: Fearoondzvanzig Tile (final E is spoken) fon Neechts.
However, this is my version, and Im not sure if that will really do, I just tried for the fun of it. Hmm...maybe some of you English-speaking people can record yourself pronouncing my phonetic version and mail the mp3s to me, so Ill know if I was right:-)! No, just kidding.

This was the first rock concert ever to be held at the Sports Palace in quadrophonic sound and the band incorporated their amazing psychedelic light show for the first time: A giant, cosmic spectacle which, if it didnt actually tear down the Berlin Wall, certainly helps to weaken it in places!
P I N K F L O Y D Straight out of the studio, having just finished the Meddle album, the band was in great form, playing dynamic versions of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Embryo, Cymbaline and Fat Old Sun. The climax of the concert was the fantastic version of Echoes, topped-off with the classic Pink Blues as an encore.

This an excellent release from the Harvested Label. There are particularly good performances of Fat Old Sun, Embryo, Set the Controls & Astronomy Domine. Also the early version of Echoes has the crowd clapping with the rhythm just before the echoe sounds start, and a noticeable feedback buzz in the middle.
Even though this is a Harvested release, I still found that there was still far too much hiss, so I have reduced this considerably to leave a much cleaner and clearer recording. Also at the end of Echoes & Pink Blues there were numerous tiny gaps in the sound which have now been repaired. Finally there was a bad tape join in Astronomy Domine which has been made much better.
