Our fight against fake files and lack of comments
Posted by Markus | 1 year ago on Thursday 15 May 2008 14:35:12 to be more exactMost of our visitors know that we have taken an active stand when comes to the detection of fake files. We even developed an advanced system that can work on its own (detect, delete, ban, etc..). A lot of our visitors appreciate our efforts and help us by reporting torrents that are fake/nuked etc. So all's great one might say. Well it's not. I have seen certain torrents that have been downloaded many times with a lot of seeds and 0 comments. Leaving comments will only take a few seconds and save others possibly hours.
That is why I want to urge everybody who has downloaded anything, no matter how big the file or how perverted (you to sick guy) to drop a comment and let everybody else who might be interested in the file know what the deal is. You could notify users that the file is fake, has a virus, is great or anything else. Keep in mind that Seedpeer is a social torrent site where we care about the user experience and want to offer the best service possible. We can only accomplish this with your help.
We are also looking into ways to stimulate our members to post comments, so if anyone has an idea on how to accomplish this, please let us know.
Take care

It was easier to make comments when we had bookmarks, and we could go to specific download for comment sorry if i sound lazy.

Good point, Ill see if I can get that feature back up in the days ahead.
Edit: Feature is back.

How about editable torrents, lets say I have uploaded a torrent and I want to change something. This would be a great feature.

Great to see the Bookmark feature back as it will make keeping a check on dls; and future dls; comments easier.thx

true, we need to all make a better effort

It would be much better and easier if we didn't need to register for an account in order to post comments. That way even guests can report fakes.

@CaseyEx:
Yes that would make things much easier but would also allow malicious anti piracy groups and other people to abuse the system. Plus registering isn't that hard is it?

i always try to report fake torrents but sometimes it's hard to go back and find a torrent that you have downloaded and then comment on it

Could ya posibly number each torrent 1 through 1000 or whautever?, The hardest part bout leavin a comment is ya dont know what one ya exactly downloaded, If they were numbered or something then ya could go exactly to the torrent u wanted easily and quickly.
delboy53 1 year ago
If you bookmark them u can easily refer back to the torrent for comment.

I try to comment when they are fake files. I look them up according to their name and the size. E.g - If there are 80 files titled "Spiderman Xvid," I look for the one that matches the size I downloaded and comment on that one. Not the easiest method, but it saves others from downloading a shitty file.

not sure if i'll sound retarded here but:
i would love to comment up all the great files i've gotten. problem is, by the time i have downloaded them (and seeded heavily of course) I've no idea what page they came from to leave a comment at. Most times i'm coming through Torrentz.com anyway, although seedpeer is quickly becoming a favourite. So I usually have no idea what specific page to go back to and give props. Another user on here said something about a "bookmarks" feature? not sure what that means, but if it has to do with just bookmarking the page, well, its a start...
But I'm thinking perhaps the torrent itself should include a small text file, with just the url of the page it was listed on. I'm not sure how this would be implemented as a torrent is usually listed on several torrent cataloguing sites, wether the implementation would muck things up or what.
If only a comment feature were some how built into a BT client itself. Some sort of little button or such where it kept track of the url the torrent file came from and could send you back to that page once you've had time to evaluate.
Again, pardon my ignorance if such things somehow already exist.
Further, this BT dream client of mine would include a feature to automatically block bad trackers. That is, it would look once a day or so (update shedule being configurable) for updates from a trusted source (said source being configurable again) for a list of trackers reported as bad. And then block them. Automatically.
Finally, and most importantly my dreamclient would run on linux. And it would be exactly like ktorrent in all other respects.
Again, i apologise if it sounds as though i have no idea what i'm talking about. (i don't)

from now on I am going to leave a comment on all files I download from seedpeer. the only thing I expect from you guys is that you ban right away all those fake files and shit people that use the site to spread out their shit!!!!!!!!!!
by the way, you guys are doing a great job here!!!!!

I congratulate you guys for the great job you are doing here and the incredible effort to make this seedpeer site even better.
I notticed that the "Bookmarking" option is back on but untill tonight I didn't see it. I'll love to leave comments, now that I can easelly access and track down the specific torrents to do so.
I'm sorry to report that tonight I deleted from my torrent client and after downloading enougth to get a preview, 2 fakes that I'm not shure I can find again to report as fakes/passworded/blocked due to the amazing number of almust identical torrents shown on the list.
One thing though, it would be a very good thing that you make it so that showing the seeder's nick could be put in the info page of the torrent and/or the list, that way everyone would avoid those known fakers and/or "DOM PLAYER" uploaders, among the others that love to post viruses, nukes, etc.

I agree with you Theman...I do the same as Laughing 69, but this days I have noticed some of my comments wasn't published. Mostly, I find RAR files and I let others know that it is a RAR file, you know why? A lot of times before, I have downloaded a RAR file and always if it doesn't ask you of a password, it will led you to another website, ask you to register, then if it doesn't ask you to pay, it will ask you to register into an XXX website. So, now I have it in my mind that when it is a RAR file, it's just a waste of time, so I let others know that it is a RAR file. It only depends on them if they will still decide to download it. I do know that there are RAR files also which doesn't give you a headache but for me a novice in such, it's just a waste of my download time.
What I do to know what are the files in that torrent? I click to download the torrent, then I click on the FILES AND TRACKERS. there you will see what files are in this torrent. With the real aXXo torrent, I don't bother to do this anymore, just go to aXXo's account, cause if not you will be downloading what you thought is a real aXXo, but those are fakes.
I love to leave comments as I really love tapping on my keyboards, but with caution. I love to write with my keyboard especially with passion. Leaving a comment in each torrent I have stumbled into, is one of my likes.
One time I have leave a comment on a torrent that has a CAM in it's torrent name. My line goes like this: "This was taken by a camera and the image is not good...." Someone reacted on my comment like this. "It is stated in the name CAM, what do you expect?" So I replied: "I know that, but I have downloaded some torrents also taken by a CAM before, but the images are not as bad as this one, so I'm just letting others know." Probably he's the one who uploaded that torrent? LOL
I also have stumbled, 2 already VERIFIED torrents and newly uploaded actually, clicking the download I got this, "Seedpeer Message: The page you are trying to access does not exist. You can return to the Seedpeer homepage." I can't leave a comment to let SeedPeer or others know because the page doesn't exist, and it's not long time ago. I might understand if the torrents age is already more than a year, but just days

I have been reading through these comments but I have to disagree with some.I am new to the site and as yet I have to find a file that did not do what it says i.e movies and software from the movies point of view no comments so when you do download it's password protected as for software nothing but a virus or complete crap.
Once I got a movie and I must admit to the uploader great job.
I know for the guys and maybe gals running the show here it's hard to keep an eye but we should all be doing the best to stop crap being uploaded.
